When your home is flooding
First things first, don’t panic, call a professional. Castino Restoration is here to help. Being certified, and well trained to handle flood situations, you can feel comfortable that you have the pros taking care of your home.
Before Castino arrives, it’s in your best interest to take pictures, video tape, and/or list the damages for your insurance company and possibly help with income tax deductions. Do not eat anything that has come in contact with flood water, and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before you do eat. Do not try to vacuum wet carpets or surfaces, special equipment is required for water extraction. If your electric is safe, turn on ceiling fans to begin the drying process. Also, open windows, doors (including closet doors) and even drawers to help air circulate. Lift your drapes off the floor and try to remove furniture, paintings, books, and valuables out of flooded rooms. But do remember, that your safety is the most important thing, and do not attempt to do anything that could cause a potentially dangerous situation.
Because your home has flooded, it’s likely it could happen again. So, it would be wise to take some precautions to help prevent, or at least minimize the damage of the next potential flood. Getting flood insurance since home owners’ insurance policies do not cover flood damage would be the best thing you could do. Keeping your gutters cleaned is another way to help prevent backed up water from draining in places it shouldn’t. Make sure any appliance that uses water, such as dishwashers, sinks, washing machines, etc. have hoses that are securely in place and are working properly. And in the event that flooding happens again, just remember the people who took care of your flood last time: Give Castino Restoration a call.
