What to do After a Fire
A fire is always a devastating ugly disaster, changing home décor to that black soot look. Many choose Castino Restoration because we can clean up the damage with our professionals, and then build back and restore your home getting it back to normal and the decorations you do want, or re-do everything to your liking. Once a fire has already happened, to reduce the damage and avoid permanent damage make sure you follow the following guidelines:
Limit movement in home. This will reduce or prevent soot particles from setting into any upholstery or carpets.
Keep your hands clean. If they are dirty, be careful where you put them, you don’t want to further dirty anything else in your home. For example, keep them off of your walls, upholstery, and woodwork.
Place clean towels over upholstery and carpet traffic areas. This will also reduce additional soot from getting on your carpet.
If you have house plants, be sure to wash both sides of the leaves.
Do NOT attempt to wash walls, painted surfaces, carpets, upholstery, or electrical appliances before consulting a Castino Restoration Professional.
Do NOT use any canned or packaged foods or beverages that were near fire, heat, or water.
Do NOT turn on any ceiling fixtures if they ceiling is wet. The wiring may be damaged.
Do NOT take any smoke damaged clothing to just any dry cleaner. Make sure the cleaner knows how to treat smoke damaged clothing, as improper cleaning may result in the smoke odor to set in clothes.
Do remember that in any disaster, your safety is the first priority and do not do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing. Castino is here to ensure that you and your home are taken care of.
